What is a Home Health Agency?
The term "home health agency" refers to a company that provides health care services in a person's residence. A residence can be the patient's own home, the home of a family member or an assisted living center that does not provide skilled services. Home Health Agencies do not provide services in a hospital or nursing home setting. In Indiana an agency must be licensed to provide services. Many agencies are also certified to provide services under the Medicare program. They may provide skilled nursing services, physical, speech, and occupational therapies, medical social services, or home health aide services.
Who pays for home care services?
Several payment options are available. For those patients who are eligible for Medicare, there is no co-payment or out-of-pocket expense. There are no claims to file. Services are covered 100% under these plans as long as the guidelines for eligibility are met. Other options for payment include private or corporate health care insurance plans and private payment. How do I get home care started for myself or a loved one?
Call our office toll free at 1-800-488-4731. You will speak with a nurse about what services are available and what you may qualify for if covered under Medicare. They will ask some simple questions and get some information from you that may be needed to verify your eligibility. A Registered Nurse will speak with your physician and will come to your home to do an initial health assessment after the physician has given approval.
